Happy New Year.....................................................................................................

I hope every one has a happy, safe and very intoxicated New Year. 2010 hasn't been an easy year for me personally but when you think you're not doing too good there's always someone worse off. Let's be thankful that we have another year to right all of our wrongs. I thank every one once again for all the support. Stay tuned because Oufancy has much more for you. Best wishes in 2011!

Love,

Oufancy

Ms J from Springfield Gardens, Queens said....................................................................

Hair Spa by Georgina **** 4 Stars 133-20 Springfield Blvd, Springfield Gardens, NY  718-527-1300

My 13 year old daughter Bria, wanted a perm like all her friends of course.  Her mom being the natural dread that I am didn’t want to put a perm in her virgin hair. I decided to do the Keritan hair strengthening treatment as Oufancy recommended. A friend recommended the Hair Spa, and it couldn’t have been a better experience.  Though the technicians don’t speak English well, the owner, a man named Freddy called me personally (he wasn’t in the salon at the time), explained the entire process (without my asking) and answered all my questions, including if there was no formaldehyde in the treatment which I was warned about and he assured me the rep he got the product from actually ate some to show it was all natural.  He came immediately back to the spa to look at my daughter’s hair and quote a price ($175.00) which was reasonable. Bria’s hair looks beautiful, she is happy and I am too, because she didn’t have to get a perm.  I’ll let you know how well it holds up in a couple of months.

Thanks Ms J : )

BEWARE OF FLAMMABLE HAIR PRODUCTS.......................................................

If you read the back of a can of hair spray, mousse, sheen etc you may see a warning that says the product may be flammable. Now, I won't go as far as saying that this young lady's hair isn't real because I don't know that but I will say that she didn't read the warning label on something. PLEASE DON'T TRY THIS @ HOME!

Chick Chat (Basketball Wives).................................................................

2 ND Episode

First, can someone please tell me how old these women are? Hopefully they are very rehearsed because I can't believe that these grown a** ladies can be so petty.  Royce is playing both sides (not cool @ all) and Evelyn is all of a sudden so tough. I don't get it. I cried with Tami (yes I'm a cupcake). I'm sure it was a huge weight lifted off of her shoulders to hear Kenny say it wasn't all her fault. Finally, I wish Jennifer would stop letting so many ppl have input on her relationship. I completely understand the need to speak to someone when you're hurt but she needs to understand that everyone isn't her friend. They haven't put the full episode up yet but when they do I'll have it for you!

Basket Ball Wives.....................................................................................

Ladies don't forget Basket Ball Wives tonight @ 10!

Nails done hair done every thing did...............................................................

Essie is one of my favorite nail polish collections. I recently started getting color on my nails and I'm loving Essie's colors. I'm not crazy about dark polish for myself but I love how they look on other ppl. What I love about their polish is that what you see is what you get. It looks exactly the same on your nails as it does in the bottle. I've been sticking to minimalistic and lilacism. Minimalistic is a pretty pink/purple and lilacism is perfect if you're just looking for a touch of color.

Below is their winter collection:

Chick Chat (Why do we have to tell them twice?)

Most women (emphasis on most) are easily satisfied. We're very specific about what we like and we often express it. Soooooooooooo why isn't that enough? Some girls like flowers from time to time. Others like taking long walks and candle lit dinners. Wouldn't it be nice if every once in a while we got those things without having to bring it up?

The truth is that we do have to indirectly bring it up because ladies they just tend to forget. It's not that they don't care but because their mind doesn't work like ours does. Granted some men do pay attention to details and will make note of certain things. If your man does, lucky you! If he doesn't..............................blame yourself for the fact that he's getting you a sweater and perfume for X Mas and you really wanted a bag.

I'm just saying : )

Appreciate us dammit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is it just me or does it seem like there's a lack of customer service in the hair industry? (and at the Target in Atlantic Terminal but we'll discuss that another time). Why do hair dressers always act like you're lucky to have them do your hair. In an effort to shed light on this issue, I'm launching the "Appreciate us dammit" campaign. There should be a mandatory customer service course implemented in every Salon. I will begin visiting local Salons in my area and rating their customer service every other week. Ladies don't forget this is a two way street. You can't walk into an establishment with a screw face and expect service with a smile. My first visit will be after the holidays (I didn't even start X-Mas shopping smh). January 8th 2011 "Appreciate us dammit" will be in full effect. They need to know that we're paying for a service and we deserve to be treated as such! If you would like me to visit a Salon in your area email me @ yf.oufancy@gmail.com

Thanks : )

Special shout out to the NY Knickerbockers..................................................

Congratulations are definitely in order for that performance the Knicks put on against the Boston Celtics last night. Now unless you're a Knicks fan, you  don't really understand how serious this is. I've been a fan since I was a little girl (that's a long time lol). I remember it like it was yesterday, me and my brother literally crying every time they lost. So for me this is big! Stoudemire is NY's saviour right now. So win lose or draw, they deserve a round of applause because it's been a long time since we've actually anticipated a Knicks game. (oouuuuhh get em!)

Chick Chat (Basketball Wives).................................................................

OK so Basketball Wives did not disappoint one bit. These women are getting cattier as the seasons go by. Ladies we all have that side to us but it seems to be so extra over there in Miami. I'm still trying to figure out why they are mad @ Gloria. In her defense, blood is thicker than water and I agree with her not dogging her sister for these random chicks. Tami is just the right amount of NY that the show needed and I can't wait to see how she's going to fit in (or not). Evelyn, as beautiful as she is, is beginning to be real ugly (side eye). Her vibe was real funky from minute one. I completely understood her point but she was all the way turned up for no reason. I felt kinda bad for Suzie she seemed genuinely sorry. I truly hope that Jennifer ends up being happy (she's my gf in my head). If you haven't seen it, here it is................

What is a Keratin hair treatment????????????????????????????

The Keratin hair treatment aka Brazilian blowout is an alternative to a relaxer and can be used on all types of hair. It is a non-chemical protein based product and was designed to naturally straighten hair with the help of a flat iron. Some have said that it actually strengthens the hair also.

It can be used on virgin or previously processed hair. You can relax or color your hair before the keratin application since there are no chemicals in the product.

It usually cost between $150-$300 depending on where you live and can take up to two hours to complete. Results can last up to a few months but gradually washes away. Shampoos with a natural PH are recommended to extend the results.

I have heard both good and bad things about this product. The good thing is that unlike relaxers it isn't a harsh chemical and can be used to straighten natural hair with out permanently changing it's texture. What usually worries people is the temperature of the flat iron. The flat iron can go up to an extreme temperature of 450 degrees and may damage the hair.

As with any treatment results may vary.

Winter colors..................

Now that winter is officially here (in nyc it is official) we usually want to change our look a bit. I usually keep my hair jet black but now that I'm not wearing weave it's kinda hard for me to switch  my look up so I'm going to color it. Here are a few nice winter options and styles:

The classic jet black  bob is always a nice look all year round

Red is always a nice fall/winter color

And for the natural girls a nice brownish blond for this time is nothing less than fierce

I'll add my pic when mine is done : )

Special shout out to my girl lover4fashion

After yesterday's weave discussion I was asked to recommend hair

As you may or may not know, buying hair can be a hassle. It's expensive and some hair is just a hot mess. For regular pack hair I would recommend Outre premium yaki. It doesn't tangle as much as other pack hair can and if it does, a little sheen usually tames it.

http://www.beautyofnewyork.com/shopping/G7JC110307KS1015.htm

For Remi hair, I would recommend Outre Velvet Remi or Bobbi Boss IndiRemi. Both of these brands are really good. Outre's texture is a little thicker and Bobbi Boss will blend in better with thinner hair. They both are a bit pricey but you can reuse them as long as you like.

Hope I helped ladies : )

I've been thinking about going natural for a while now so I interviewed someone who did.......................

My cousin Madison has been natural for about four years now so I had a few questions for her

Oufancy: What made you decide to go natural?

Madison: I decided to go natural because I was getting tired of the routine perm, wash and set. I also love to travel and I hated not being able to do certain activities just not to get my hair wet.

LOL that's me

Oufancy: Did you have any hesitations in the beginning stages?

Madison: At first I did. When I was growing my perm out it was hard for me to cut my permed ends. I was always used to having long luxurious hair. I just didn't want to get rid of it.

Oufancy: Although I've been thinking about it, I'm kind of hesitant because I like to change styles so often. What would you tell someone like me who has a fear of being stuck with one look?

Madison: I would suggest playing with textures. You can get a two strand twist which can always be taken out as opposed to dreads. Actually, when you take them out, you're left with this nice soft curl. Also, being natural doesn't mean you can't wear your hair straight. If you get a good blow dry, it will look just like a perm. Ms Jessie's buttercreme is a good product to help manage it.

Oufancy: Would you recommend going natural?

Madison: Yes I encourage all women to experience their hair's natural state. Of course to each his own, but your hair is healthier and will grow extremely fast when it's natural. It's a beautiful feeling!

Oufancy: Thanks so much Maddie, I'm still debating but you made it easier.

Let's talk weaves...........................

OK so I'm no expert but after wearing weaves for so long I learned a lot of do's and dont's. I'm in no way promoting weaves or suggesting that you get one. If you have one or plan to get one there are some things you should know.

1) The first thing is always making sure that your natural hair is healthy. We tend to neglect our own hair when wearing weaves because we can't see it (depending on what type of weave you wear). If you go to a salon it may be necessary to stress your own hair's health to your stylist. Not all stylists focus on hair care. If you do your hair yourself, try to give it a treatment at least every two weeks.

2) Secondly, choose the type of weave that better fits your style, schedule and personal preference. Just like anything else, over time weaves have evolved. There's the sew in, glue, quick weave and depending on where you live I'm sure there's more. My personal preference was sew in. A sew in is easy to manage and usually last longer than the others I mentioned. The installation can be painful and if you're tender headed this definitely isn't for you. The braids can sometimes be really tight which is uncomfortable and will damage your hair. You should try not to exceed six weeks for a sew in. The thread can  get tangled in your hair and it is very difficult to get out. Gluing is easier and takes less time to install. It can last up to two weeks, three if you tack in between (re gluing lifted sections of track). Gluing can also give you a more natural look. If you add a few pieces in no one will ever know. Although it's pain free, it can damage your hair also. There are several glues on the market and as I have come to learn, they're not all the same. If it's important to you, it wouldn't hurt to spend a little extra on some professional bond glue. The removal of the track  is probably the most important. You should always saturate the tracks and your hair with some type of oil or conditioner before removing them. That loosens the track from your hair without pulling it. Be patient, it can take some time. Another trick is to put a little astringent (clean & clear, seabreeze etc) on the track and it usually slips right out. You should be good to go! Now quick weaves (caps), I've never gotten done. I've seen some that look like helmets and I'm scared. Having said that, my bestie gets them done all the time and hers look fierce so it depends. I posted a few links to videos below for your viewing pleasure.

3) Last but not least, your hair's health depends on your over all health. It's very important to take care of our bodies so that every thing  functions properly!

Enjoy : )

So since I started the blog I've been getting emails and tx mssgs from guys asking why we can't post comments about barbershops LOL. Apparently we're not the only ones having a hard time. If you want to give your barber a shout out you can do that too by either posting it in the comments section or sending a email to yf.oufancy@gmail.com. I must say...............keep it clean fellas. ON BLAST

Now this is the section no Salon/Stylist wants to ever end up on. Unfortunately, it's a necessary evil. If you've gotten your hair done and wasn't too happy after, please let us know so we don't go behind you and make the same mistake. When we're paying for a service we should always feel like we got our money's worth. Whether if we spent $25 or $200 (weaves are so dayum expensive)! So let me be the first:

I WANT TO PUT IDALIA'S ON BLAST FOR CHARGING ME $172 FOR THE THREE STRANDS I HAVE ON THIS HEAD (SMDH STILL).

Post it in the comments section or email me (yf.oufancy@gmail.com)

Thanks : )

Having problems posting comments

I've been getting emails and tx mssgs from people saying they're having problems posting comments if they don't have gmail. If you try to post one and can't, email me @ yf.oufancy@gmail.com. Don't worry I won't post your email address!

Karimah from Brooklyn said.......................

Five years ago a coworker recommended a FANTASTIC hairdresser named Michelle at Hair Trendz in NY. Since the first time she cut my hair I haven’t let anyone else come near my hair. She’s skilled and knows what you want. Everyone I’ve recommended to her keeps going back. She’s the best!!!!!

I can vouch for Karimah she's one of my best girlfriends and her hair is always ON POINT!!!!

Thanks Sweet!

Marcey from Suffolk County, LI said..................

Hey, I am Your brothers friend.

I used to go to this salon in West Hempstead...These ladies are great (Both Dominican) They used to be in queens but relocated...Nina and Frances...Nina on Color and Frances on Cuts...They both do perms...And their prices are great. I think they make up prices as they go since they rent the space. I have gotten full color Foiled highlights cut and blow out for $120...I give a $20 tip bc thats how happy I was. Their address is 160 Hempstead Turnpike, West Hempstead, NY ...For the life of me I cant remember the name of the salon...but the name Elite comes to mind....But I still can be wrong. They take walk ins but If you want a full process come early...They also stay late on Friday nights. I ALWAYS go early Saturday so Im out by noon. I only have Nina's personal # and she may kill me if I give it out....But walk in and see for yourself.

Regretfully I havent been there in a while bc it just became too much to drive all the way out there...I found a spot that is OK...but dont feel comfy enough to suggest it (I am not too attached...YET)...so if anyone has a local spot (Suffolk County Area) let a girl know....and OF COURSE ...It has to be economical...Thanks...and GREAT BLOG!

Thanks Marcey! let's hope someone returns the favor : )

INTRODUCTION

Hello Ladies : )

This is my very first post and I'm hoping that it becomes a  helpful tool to you in the future. First let me introduce myself. I'm a young working mother of two from Brooklyn. I've been inspired by many things and many people through out the years . Every once in a while you have a life changing event that alters your perception of things, which is what led me to create oufancy. I'm sure you'll feel the exact same way I did afterwards...........

So I just recently decided to stop wearing weaves after four years. Yes, four years of taking the old weave out and replacing it with a new one the very same day. Needless to say, my hair became severely damaged. I decided to go to a local salon named Idalias on Washington Avenue. It's located in the Crown Heights area of Brooklyn (near the Brooklyn Museum for those of you who are familiar).

This salon is actually where I hear Ursula (Rihanna's hair dresser) got her break. As soon as you enter this place you get the feel of a Manhattan salon. It's trendy, very nicely decorated. The receptionist was quite friendly and the assistants were  professional and warm. I must say that the assistants actually do most of the work and I was  pleased with their hospitality. The stylist styles you (curl, straighten, cut etc). To make a long story very short, I was happy with the entire experience until it was time to pay.
So what I had done was
1) perm
2) rinse
3) cut
Total $172.00
*No your eyes aren't playing tricks on you. If you read $172.00 USD your eyes are just fine!!!!!!!!!!!
That experience ladies, is what led me to create this little ole blog!
My goal is to have you help me by helping everyone else. Email me  (yf.oufancy@gmail.com) with your hair salon/stylist dreams and/or nightmares (you can also post a comment). Hopefully you can save a soul! If you can recommend a salon/stylist PLEASE DO SO! Hopefully you can save a soul! It doesn't matter where you live, I'm sure there's someone near you that will appreciate it. I will post your emails (with your permission of course) and hopefully YOU CAN SAVE A SOUL LOL!
Thanks for your support!
PS Idalia's is a very professional salon but needless to say nothing about it is cheap!
